Carnival of Gamers V

Welcome to Carnival of Gamers #5! Back to Basics Edition!

Admittedly I started to do a theme for this like the others, but when I noticed that the very first Carnival was theme free I figured I might be better off sticking with what I am comfortable with. If any future Carnival hosts need ideas I was considering a reptile house or confectionary theme. Don’t say I never gave you anything!

Our first submission is about economics. No I am not kidding! Specifically it comes from Yoshi who is making some startling observations about the currency of video games. Actually, he points out some things I’ve thought about before, but puts it into perspective with some real world examples of how difficult the concept of universal currency truly is.

Finster proves he is not afraid of controversy in his post on why he thinks video game sex is worse than video game violence.

Over at Man Bytes Blog, Corvus never fails to bring an unconventional and fresh outlook on video game design with his submission “Not Now Kid, I’m Playing My Stories”. Yes, I really did have to use his exact title.

Always a big fan of the strengths and weaknesses of console versus PC gaming myself, I have to say that peterb points out one of the most compelling strengths of console games.

Also, speaking of debates I feel passionately about, Tony seems to agree with me that parents need to start owning up to their responsibilities when it comes to video games.

Is it possible that someone has found the perfect game? Check out Thomas’ post to find out!

Brilliance is often found in simplicity, which is usually a good description of Josh’s work overall. There is a lot to digest in just a few paragraphs from a quick couple of interviews..

Controversy is not required to have a Carnival, but for those who can’t get enough here is a second helping at Space World on why Xeongears sucks. He not only slaughters a sacred cow, but he butchers, cooks, and eats it on the spot.

Waxing nostalgic over an old game? Shane is over Racing Destruction Set. It does seem like it is overdue for a remake.

That’s it for this edition of the Carnival. Next month will be hosted at AFK Gamer on September 1st. Check out Button Mashing’s Carnival HQ to get more information on future carnivals or to find out about hosting one.

Also, on August 5th (that would be tomorrow for the chronologically impaired), Unfettered Blather will resume regular posting ending its unplanned hiatus.
