Interest in…E3…declining…

I’m not following anything about E3 this year. I learned last year that anything interesting is going to be reported after E3 because after all the big names in gaming blow their wad then they are ready to start talking about concrete details.

E3, at some point, used to be the place to get information on what was coming next. When I hear statements like “This might be the first time in 4 years that Blizzard does not demo Starcraft Ghost” I can’t help but roll my eyes. (On a side note, has it really been 4 years?) We’re presented tech demo after tech demo for games that aren’t even done, products that aren’t done, and there is no clue as to when any of them will be done. Most of what we will see by the time the next E3 rolls around will probably get the least amount of coverage, except for the big things we already knew about that damn well better be out before the next E3 or the companies making them will be in big trouble. (PS3 anyone?)

It’s just a big bawdy marketing show anymore. A week-long advertisement. I generally hate terms like “sold out” or “commercialized” but…well…yeah.

  1. Was E3 ever something other than a big bawdy marketing show?

I generally agree with you that E3 is a big hype-fest.

    But… 2 minute Halo 3 trailer… OMGOMGOMG

    Heh, I’m such a hack.
